GET TO KNOW YOUR BODY

To play and practice the game of golf with any consistency certainly requires your body to be in good physical condition. The extent in which your body is conditioned can have dramatic influence on how you play the game. Strength, flexibility, range of motion, balance, all these ingredients apply to good swing mechanics. Many times poor swing mechanics are a direct result of poor physical conditioning. Research has also shown that the biggest contributor to medical problems in golf is over-use and improper swing mechanics. These improper swing mechanics result from physical limitations.

I highly recommend having a physical evaluation of strength, flexibility, balance, speed, and posture. I highly recommend consulting an expert in this field. It is worth it's weight in gold to develop a conditioning and flexibility program catered to your individual needs.

HYDRATION

Golfers lose large amounts of water, minerals, and electrolytes in every round of golf and practice session. In our summer months this can be more than 2% of body weight. You do not have to be perspiring for this to happen. Most golfers do not properly hydrate themselves. Improper hydration leads to low energy, poor concentration, lack of patience and enthusiasm, and ultimately lack of ability to play to your potential. So often times when golfers struggle to concentrate, they have bad attitudes and lack of patience, or feel a lack of energy, these are all symptoms of a dehydrated golfer. Do not wait until your thirsty to hydrate yourself! Begin each day with the concept of being hydrated!

YOGA

I have been seeing amazing transformations in golfer's who have committed themselves to a consistent Yoga workout routine. Increased flexibility, strength, body awareness, and improved balance certainly lead to better golf. In addition, this provides nice security towards injury prevention!
